ROLE: Senior Specialist - Mechanical Design Engineer
SALARY: to £37,000 + bonus + pension + healthcare + dental
LOCATION: Buckinghamshire
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a global aerospace company you will take responsibility for all aspects of Mechanical Packaging & Configuration Design of new and in-service equipment for Electronic Control & Power Management/Distribution. Your role will be to ensure the mechanical design meets specification requirements, and to have a general understanding of the function of the product within the Electrical Power System of an Aircraft.
Responsibilities include:
Perform the mechanical design of electronic/electrical products.
Ensure the mechanical design meets agreed customer specification requirements with regard to technical, cost, weight, reliability, environmental and maintainability criteria.
Ensure all appropriate analysis of the mechanical design is carried out, identify and minimise risk, and where appropriate specify additional test requirements to validate the design.
Liaise with and involve appropriate specialist engineers (Stress, Materials, Integration, Manufacturing, etc.), and interpret relevant analysis/test data to understand and resolve issues.
Collaborate with the electronic and system design groups to produce effective overall design solutions for the product.
Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure correct interpretation of design intent and provide guidance for improving quality of the product.
Fully document the design, prepare design schemes and attend or conduct all necessary design reviews.
Use appropriate CAD tools and ensure the capture and maintenance of design data and files.
Operate within a project team environment and to assume overall technical responsibility for the mechanical design of the product from initial concept through development, manufacture, qualification to in-service use.
Provide technical expertise to customers, project teams and other functional groups in support of new and mature products. Also to provide technical input in support of the selection and control of suppliers.
Assist in providing timescale estimates and compilation of project program plans for all mechanical and configuration design activities, and ensure relevant project milestones are met.
Assume 'Work Package Owner' responsibilities for all mechanical design activities within a project team when required, and supervise as appropriate other mechanical design & configuration engineers.
The ideal candidate:
Educated to degree level, within an engineering discipline.
Work experience and good technical background in all aspects of mechanical packaging of electronic products, including mechanical chassis design, PCB packaging, complex wiring and harness design within an aerospace environment .
Knowledge of up to date manufacturing methods, processes and techniques associated with mechanical packaging of electronic products.
Good analytical skills to assess and solve complex technical problems.
Able to create and develop original ideas and make use of different specialist skills to achieve a satisfactory design solution.
Shall have a high level of experience using recognised 3D CAD modelling tools, preferably SDRC Ideas.
Proactive and a good team player with a positive outlook. Also required to be confident with decision-making issues affecting the product and team.
Shall have a flexible approach with regard to all activities performed within the PCB & Packaging design group and where required fully support/assist in all tasks (checking, detailing, etc.).
Successful candidates must meet the requirements of ITAR.
Desirable Attributes:
Familiarisation with PCB design and layout tools and/or processes.
Basic understanding of electrical/circuit design.
Familiarisation of aircraft safety and Airworthiness criteria.
