ROLE: Software Engineer
LOCATION: Waddington, Lincolnshire
SALARY: £35,000
Our client a leading technology and innovation leader specialising in defence, homeland security and other government markets throughout the world requires a Software Engineer to work with the existing radar programme. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work at the systems level as well as demonstrate a solid understanding of issues at the code development level. Tasks will range from requirements definition and design for new business to development, coding & integration as required to support existing mission system capability.
Nature and Scope
Activities may encompass the entire development life cycle and will range from requirements capture, implementation and integration of requirements to testing and maintenance of the Mission system.
The candidate will be continuously interfacing with the customer on multiple levels and will be expected to respond to technical queries from both customer and 'home team' communities.
The candidate will also undertake operational support of the Mission system and its components.
The position would best suit a pro-active Software Engineer who works well within a team.
Competencies
Detailed knowledge of software development lifecycle phases & practices
Hands on experience in the design & development of complex systems
Systems level experience in the integration and test phase of the systems lifecycle
Hands on programming experience of C++ with MFC
Experience of the following would be highly desirable:
" OO Design / UML
" COM/DCOM
" GUI/HMI design/development with MFC
" Multithreaded environment on Windows platform
" Windows Administration
" Visual Basic
Experience with any of the following would also be considered as beneficial:
" Military comms/datalinks - especially Link16
" MilStd 1553 Serial Communications Protocol
Military avionics systems
" Image handling and processing
" ArcMap / ArcGIS
" Advanced networking and routing (TCP/IP, CISCO)
Personal Characteristics
Proactive and must work well within a team
Relationship management skills across a complete spectrum e.g. internal, inter-company & customer facing
Education and Experience
Essential
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in Software Engineering
Current hands on experience with C++
Desirable
Military Comms/datalinks experience. Specifically in Link16, SATCOM, ICS or Narrow/Wide band datalinks
Experience with ArcGIS products an advantage
SQL
Practical experience of reporting responsibility to management; time and performance tracking; customer facing and liaison
